The OCF Convention 2009 will be held from 9 to 13 December 2009 (Wednesday to Sunday) at Hotel Equatorial in Melaka, Malaysia.

About Main Speakers:

Christopher Chia, Senior Pastor of Adam Presbyterian Centre (Singapore)

Chris Chia

Christopher Chia was converted at the Billy Graham Crusade in 1979 while studying at Sydney. He owes much of his early spiritual growth to the ministry of OCF (Sydney) and his first church, St Matthias. Chris worked as journalist before training for gospel ministry at Moore College. He pastored both Prinsep Street Presbyterian Centre (PSPC) and Adam Road Presbyterian Centre (ARPC) since 1991, where he is now Senior Pastor.

Dr Calvin Ma, Director of Overseas Mission Fellowship (Australia)

Dr Calvin Ma

Calvin first joined OCF Melbourne in June 1974. He served many roles there, from being a camp coordinator, bible study leaderand was even OCF Parkville chairman in 1979. Finally in 1983, he served as OCF Australia Exco Chairman. Currently, he serves as the director of OMF Australia and has spoken to thousands of individuals. He will draw on his wide knowledge of missions to give an insight into how it affects us and what we should be doing.

SEMINAR SESSIONS

SESSION I: THURSDAY, 10TH DECEMBER 2009, 2:00-3:15PM

Session I a: Songwriting workshop with Mr. Geoffrey Woo

Mr. Geoffrey Woo, an ex-OCFer, is a singer/composer who has been in the music ministry for 26 years. He received his calling while he was an Engineering student in Melbourne. Geoffrey has released 6 albums and 3 singles. He has ministered in churches around Malaysia and Singapore, and has toured Australia, Philippines, Hong Kong, and Indonesia. He has shared the stage with the likes of Hillsongs and Barry McGuire. He is a member of the Malaysian Christian Songwriters Network (MCSN).

Session I b: Reaching Nations in My Campus with OCF Australia EXCO

There are at least 500,000 international students from more than 100 nations in the Australian campuses. What is my role as a student missionary in the campus? How can we be more effective in outreach on campus?

Session I c: Marketplace Christianity with Mr. Seck Wai Kwong and Mr. Timothy Liu

Mr. Seck Wai Kwong is the Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the Singapore Exchange (SGX). Wai Kwong is married to Tan Lye Kean, whom he met at OCF Clayton when both were studying at Monash University. They have 3 children. At the age of 16, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour and Lord. Since then he has been attending Grace Baptist Church in Singapore, where he now serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Mr. Timothy Liu is the Director and Founder of Marketplace Christian Network (MCN), works as a regional sales manager for a US company with responsibility to oversee business in Asia. Timothy also serves on the Graduates’ Christian Fellowship-Singapore Council as well as Chairperson for the Lausanne Special Interest Committee for Marketplace Ministry.

SESSION II: THURSDAY 10TH DECEMBER 2009, 4:00-5:15PM

Session II a: Developing Community Aid with Mr. Jason Wong & Mr. Timothy Goh

Mr. Jason Wong became a Christian in 1984, at a camp organised by OCF Perth. He became the President of OCF Perth in 1987.  Being a Colombo Plan Scholar, he served in the Singapore Civil Service after returning to Singapore.  Starting his career in the Ministry of Finance, he requested to be posted to the Singapore Prison Service one year later.  He has held positions of Deputy Director/Chief of Staff of the Prison Service, and the Chief Executive Officer of SCORE (Singapore Corporation of Rehabilitative Enterprises).  Whilst at SCORE, he initiated the Yellow Ribbon Project in year 2004.  Currently, he is Director of Rehabilitation, Protection and Residential Services in the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports, Singapore.

Mr. Timothy Goh is a lawyer. He serves in Graduates Christian Fellowship (GCF) Council in Singapore and is a leader of Kairos ministry — a micro-enterprise ministry in support of missions started by GCF.

Session II b: Student Leadership with Dr. Yong Tuck Yean

Dr. Yong Tuck Yean is currently a consultant physician in one of the hospitals in Adelaide. He is also currently the coordinator of the International Student Ministry of the Austral-Asian Community Church in Australia. He was with OCF Adelaide in 1993-99 and served in both local committees and EXCO then, and has serves as OCF Adelaide local centre advisor since 2002.

Session II c: Generational Thinking, Discipleship Lifestyle with Rev. Merrilyn Teague

Rev. Merrilyn Teague is the National Board of Advisor for OCF Australia since 2004. She has worked closely with OCF since 1980s, served as local centre advisor in South Australia and as Resource Person for OCF Australia EXCO. She has trained and discipled many Christian leaders through her various ministries in the last 40 years including missions pastor to Austral Asian Christian Church in Adelaide, Chaplain to Eyenesbury College in South Australia, missionary to Papua New Guinea. She still actively ministers in Nepal partnering with Gospel For Asia.

SESSION III: SATURDAY, 12TH DECEMBER 2009 2:00-3:15PM

Session III a: Finishing the Race Well with Rev. John Ting

Rev. John Ting came to evangelical faith in 1960 through the ministry of OCF Sydney. His call to serve in SE Asia came through successive OCF Conventions 1961-63. He was speaker at the 1982, 85, 87, 98 and 2000 Annual Conventions.  He retired last June as Dean of the Discipleship Training Centre in Singapore after 26 years of ministry at DTC. He is presently on the pastoral team of the Adam Road Presbyterian Centre in Singapore. He has been involved in the Singapore drug and prison ministry since 1974 and continues to go into prison regularly for bible teaching and counselling. He is married to Frances and they have three adult children

Session III b: Advancing God’s Kingdom through Business with Dr. Tan Loke Mun & Mr. David Ong

Dr. Tan Loke Mun is the founding director of ArchiCentre Sdn. Bhd. He is a Past President of the Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM), Chairman of the PAM Sustainability Committee, Member of the GBI Accreditation Panel (GBIAP) and also a member of the Board of Architects Malaysia. He attended OCF Geelong from 1983 and was the President of OCF Geelong from 1986 to 1987.  He later joined OCF Parkville and was part of the pioneering team that founded OCF Melbourne University in 1990. He also served as OCF Australia President from 1989 to 1990. He returned to Malaysia in 1992 and now worships at Glad Tiding Petaling Jaya.

Mr. David Ong is the founder and president of Reapfield Group of Companies. He received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Saviour during his teenage life. It was then through the power and grace of God, David experienced deliverance from the bondage of drug addiction. David is married to Serene Ong and has 3 daughters. They started Reapfield Properties in 1984 and since then have successfully built Reapfield Properties to become a brand name in the real estate industry in Malaysia. Reapfield was awarded the inaugural MIEA Real Estate Agency of the year 2008 award, and was also voted by the Malaysian public as Superbrands No. 1 Favourite Real Estate Agency. David believes in doing honourable business; business with integrity.

Session III c: How do I know if I am called to full time ministry? with Dr. Lawrence Chia & Rev. Barnabas Chong

Dr. Lawrence Chia is currently Chairman of the Evangelical Fellowship of Singapore Council and ExCo Member of Asia Evangelical Alliance. He is an elder in Prinsep Street Presbyterian Church in Singapore. At the National University of Singapore, he is at present Consultant for Alumni Relations in the Science Faculty, having previously served in various capacities including Associate Professor in Chemistry, and Director, Alumni Affairs and Development Office. He is also one of the founding members of OCF Australia in his student days.

Rev. Barnabas Chong, an ex-OCFer, is currently Pastor-in-Charge of Cairnhill Methodist Church in Singapore. He is also founder of In-Deep Worship and a catalyst for worship leaders to write songs and go deep into God’s presence.
